Have you ever been on the highway when it’s bumper-to-bumper traffic? Atlantans, you know what this feels like. Suddenly, you’re dreaming of the open road, no speed limit signs, and no state patrol cars. Unfortunately, most of us can’t experience that pedal-to-the-metal feeling—at least not without a visit to the county jail. Lucky for us, our host, Evan, was able to experience this from the seat of a Ferrari F430 Scuderia at Velocity Motorsports in Dawsonville, Georgia.
“My type of thrill seeking involves lawn sports like bocce ball or darts . . . and only darts if they’re made of rubber,” Evan told me. Needless to say, this challenge was far out of his comfort zone. Although he was terrified at first, he decided to go ahead with this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
At Velocity Motorsports, the driving instructors train participants on how to drive one of their luxury vehicles to the maximum limit. First, driving instructor Trip Campbell drove Evan. After Evan was comfortable enough to operate the vehicle on his own, they switched places. Evan and Trip soared around curves and over hills reaching top speeds of 130 mph.
“This is never something I would have chosen to do on my own. However, I’m so glad I decided to step out of my comfort zone,” Evan said. “This is something you just have to experience.”
